About Instruments of Love
Instruments of Love (IoL) is a collective of musicians and choristers based in Singapore. We specialise in providing music for wedding Masses and services, as well as supporting funeral Masses and various other events such as Masses for the sick, baptisms, confirmations, thanksgiving, anniversaries, renewal of vows, convalidation ceremonies, and fund-raising events.
Our purpose
Having encountered couples and families searching hard for suitable wedding and funeral Mass choirs, we saw a need for more music groups dedicated to serving the sacramental life of the church. Inspired by that, IoL was formed to be instruments of His love, to accompany life’s blessed moments, be it celebrating holy matrimony or honoring a loved one’s life. Through the beauty of music, IoL also aspires to draw people from all walks of life to Christ.
What we do
IoL endeavours to provide music that is appropriate to the particular Mass being celebrated. According to the Musicam Sacram and Sacrosanctum Concilium, music is an integral part of the liturgy and can foster a deeper encounter with God. It should be of quality, and respectful of the liturgical texts and rites, so as to elevate the solemnity and beauty of the Mass.
We have experience tailoring music programs to reflect the themes of the Mass. To better support congregational singing and align with the spirit of liturgical actions, choral music accompanied by the (digital) pipe organ is highly recommended. We offer a versatile repertoire, ranging from traditional to contemporary pieces, which can also be accompanied by the piano where appropriate, or done acapella. Our choir doubles as the cantor for the responsorial psalm and the animator so that you can focus on a spiritual experience during the Mass. For further details, please refer to our services section.
Saint Paul by Lippo Memmi, from Rawpixel
Our patron saint
IoL was founded on 29 June 2024, on the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul.
St. Paul is the patron saint of evangelists, writers, authors. He is also known as the apostle of faith and love.
Inspired by St. Paul’s great evangelical efforts and sacrifices, IoL seeks to open hearts and share the story of Christ through music.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
“As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.”
